As part of the City of London Corporation’s public consultation for the City Plan 2036, Beyond the Box proudly designed a tailored engagement workshop for young Londoners aged 16-25. In line with our commitment to inclusivity, we placed young people at the heart of the process, involving them in shaping both the workshop’s themes and structure.
Partnering with four talented architecture students, we co-created an interactive event focused on four key areas of the City Plan: Green Spaces, Culture Mile, Future ‘Tech’ City, and Collaborative Design. This approach ensured the workshop was not only relevant but also sparked meaningful dialogue and fresh ideas about the future of London.
Each student was responsible for leading one of the workshop’s themes, supported by Beyond the Box to create engaging sessions. These young leaders facilitated discussions among their peers, gathering valuable insights and opinions on how London should evolve. This peer-led model fostered ownership and leadership, making the workshops genuinely reflective of the participants' perspectives.
YOUR CITY - YOUR SAY
A highlight of the workshop was an exclusive tour of the iconic 122 Leadenhall Building (known as the Cheesegrater), hosted by renowned architecture firm Roger Stirk Harbour and Partners. This unique experience allowed participants to gain firsthand insights into the urban spaces and landmarks discussed during the sessions.
With over 40 young people from across London in attendance, the workshop introduced participants to the City Plan 2036, sparking active engagement with their urban environment. Through interactive sessions, they contributed their ideas and visions for the city’s future development.
A comprehensive report was prepared, summarizing the workshop’s key findings and recommendations. This document captures the collective aspirations of young Londoners and will play a vital role in informing the City Plan 2036’s policies and decisions.
